KOCHI: With the Supreme Court’s (SC) ban on car window tints beyond permissible limits to come into force soon, VIPs in the city are a distressed lot. Both VIPs and their relatives are of the opinion that the decision might affect their privacy and safety. “If the tint is reduced to such an extent that the interior gets visible from outside, it would be very difficult for celebrities. Already, we have to ensure that our identity is not disclosed whenever we go out. Now, it will be all the more difficult,” said P Madhavan, father of actress Kavya Madhavan.“Celebrities need a level of cover while stepping out in order to avoid getting unwanted attraction. Being alert and maintaining a low profile while walking around is fine. But if we have to do the same thing when we sit inside the car, it will be a tedious task. Some exception should be given to the celebrities and other VIPs,” said actor Kailash. “However, we are all bound by the same law and will obey the court’s order if we have no other choice,” he added.Meanwhile, others are of the opinion that the order is welcome considering the public security. “SC has permitted Z-category VIPs to use highly tinted glass on the window, considering their security aspect. However, considering the situation in Kerala, there is not much security threat to other VIPs. If there are genuine cases of security threat, they can always opt for alternate arrangements like bullet-proof vehicles or police protection. At the end of the day, it all comes down to public safety and if this decision can curb crimes, I feel that the people should stick to the court order,” said Hibi Eden MLA.
