New Delhi: Barley 10 days after communal clashes in Bangalore city, Section 144 has again been imposed in the Bidar area of Karnataka.
One person has been killed and three policemen have been injured in a clash in Bidar. The fight broke out been a local roadside food stall owner and a Congress MLAs son, Vijay Kumar.
Kumar died on the spot in the dispute which was over the land on which the food stall was standing. Kumar had alleged that the land belonged to the Congress MLA.
This is the second time in 10 days that an area in Karnataka has been put under Section 144.
Just 10 days ago Bangalore witnessed rioting, when there were some sporadic protests by Muslims against the hanging of former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, and they burnt posters put up by a Hindu group.
However, the matter did not end there and a couple of days later, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad held a religious gathering in the minority-dominated Shivaji Nagar area leading to a communal clash.
A mob set fire to three buses and damaged many auto rickshaws. The violence then quickly spread to Ulsoor, Indira Nagar and Commercial Street.
Police resorted to lathi-charge, used tear gas and fired in the air to control the crowd. A 12-year-old boy died and several police constables were injured in the violence.
Section 144 was clamped in many areas of the city at that time. Shivaji Nagar is a busy commercial area of the city and has an important bus terminal.
