TIRUCHY: Expressing apprehension and distrust over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement in Parliament that his government was inclined to vote in favour of the US resolution against Sri Lanka, Naam Thamizhar leader P Seeman on Wednesday said the statement only revealed that the Centre was aiming to dilute the resolution or vote against it.Citing a portion of the PM’s speech, which promised to support the resolution that supported dignity, equality and self-respect in future for the Tamils in the island nation, Seeman said it indicates that the Centre did not want the resolution to look at the past incidents of genocide against Tamils in Lanka. “Even people who were critical of the LTTE would now admit that the condition of Sri Lankan Tamils when Tigers were strong was better than at present. There was guarantee for lives of common man and the LTTE ensured that Tamil women and girls lived with dignity and self-respect. The Sinhalese army was not able to go near Tamil girls and women, when the Tigers were strong. Now, their condition is worse and they undergo sexual violence which cannot be described in words”, he said.Charging the Congress-led UPA government with abetting the Lankan actions of genocide against Tamils, he asked “how can we trust a government which helped to massacre Tamils”. He declared the Congress as the historic enemy of Tamils and asked the people not to allow its revival in Tamil Nadu. “While Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will see to it that the Congress is not revived in the north, we will ensure that it does not re-emerge in Tamil Nadu”, he added.
