The hospitals and other organisations in the city are gearing up to observe the World Heart Day which falls on September 29. Lourdes Hospital in association with the Kochi branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) is organising an awareness seminar and a free heart check-up camp to mark the World Heart Day. Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer will inaugurate the function to be held at the hospital auditorium.
Hospital director Fr Sabu Nedunilath will preside over the function.
The minister will also release a book ‘Women and heart diseases’ written by senior consultant cardiologist Dr George Thayyil. IMA Kochi branch president Dr Abraham Varghese will deliver the Heart Day message ‘one world, one home, one heart’, which is the theme of this year’s celebrations. The cardiac check-up camp will be led by Lourdes Hospital cardiology department head Dr N Balakrishnan and cardia-thoracic surgeon Dr Praveen Menon.
“Women police personnel in the city, inmates of various poor homes and children will be given priority at the camp,” the hospital authorities said.
Aimed at creating awareness, the medical department of Prajapitha Brahmakumaris Iswariya Viswavidyalayam is organising a walkathon. It will start from Durbar Hall (DH) ground, proceed through the High Court Junction and end at DH ground. Around 200 people are expected to take part in the walkathon, said the organisers.
