BANGALORE: The park at the LIC Colony in Byrasandra is a model park for the rest of the city. Though it is small park, it has all facilities to make your visit pleasant.A special pathway for senior citizens and separate play area for children makes it unique among the parks in the city. The cleanliness and upkeep of the park deserves appreciation. It is heartening to see locals evince a keen interest to maintain it properly. “I am lucky to have a nice park here,” said a housewife. Members of LIC Colony, Canara Bank Colony and Hanumanthappa Layout Residents’ Welfare Association took active part to maintain the park. “We are lucky to have such park. Many senior citizens visit this park for a walk in the morning while parents accompany children in the evening,” said U J Kamath, president, L C H Residents’ Welfare Association. The statues of mother and child are an added attraction. The Horticulture Department has taken care not to hurt any community. It has installed statues of mother and child representing several communities. “We consider Corporator Nagaraju and MLA Vijayakumar as a perfect combination. They have helped a lot for the development of this park,” said Kamath. The association has been organising cultural programmes for children on the occasion of Independence Day, Republic Day and other festivals. A Yakshagana programme is set to be held on November 26. “Around 10 children will take part in the programme while more than 40 children are expected to attend the cultural programme,” said Babu Rao, secretary, LCH Residents’ Welfare Association. However, the park needs safety measures taken up to protect children. The authorities are yet to put up a steel grill around the water fountain to avoid any untoward incidents. The water pump at the park too needs repair. The residents want the BBMP to provide space for murals and messages of great personalities such as Swami Vivekananda and Basavanna to inspire children who visit this park.Byrasandra Corporator Nagaraju promised to direct the Horticulture Department to put up a steel grill and repair the water pump. “I am proud to have an Association that takes an active role in maintenance of this park. Their cooperation at Aadhar distribution drive is commendable. I never forget MLA  Vijayakumar’s cooperation and Commissioner's guidance," he says.
