The commission’s approval came in the wake of the government promising to compensate the KSEB for exempting a section of the domestic category from the hiked tariff and fixed charges. The tariff hike will be implemented with retrospective effect from July 1 as announced earlier, KSEB officials said. A Government Order issued last week promised a monthly payment of Rs 25 crore to the KSEB to compensate for the shortfall in its revenue caused by the exemption.It was in July that the Commission had issued orders approving tariff hike in the state. Following a public outcry against the hike, the government decided to exempt domestic category consumers who use upto 120 units a month and agricultural consumers, from the enhanced tariff.
