KOCHI: The Kerala Self-Financing Medical College Managements Association (KSFMCMA), which met here on Saturday, decided to make admissions to all the seats in the MBBS stream on its own if the government fails to agree to its conditions before June 30.KSFMCMA president Dr Fazal Gafoor told reporters after the meeting that the association had put forward two options before the state government to solve the crisis. According to the first option, the model followed in Karnataka can be emulated in Kerala. The second option is to charge equal fees for all seats. Attacking the attitude of the Inter-Church Council on the admissions to the colleges under it, Gafoor said that the government would not be able to find a solution if it goes after vote bank. The stand adopted by the Inter-Church Council is deplorable, he said. If the Inter-Church Council too agrees, all the self-financing colleges will be able to uphold social justice, he remarked.The differences of opinion with the Inter-Church Council has caused some misunderstandings and the row has been given a communal colour, Gafoor said.There are many colleges under the KSFMCMA run by the Christian managements. Only those under the Inter-Church Council are taking unilateral decisions, he said. He also hinted that the fees for all the seats during the current academic year will be Rs 3.5 lakh. However, such issues also are open to discussion, he added. The admission process to the MBBS courses can be completed by September 30. A permanent solution can be found only if the Union Government brings in a common legislation in this regard. The next KSFMCMA meeting will be held after the Supreme Court gives its verdict on extending the admission date for medical PG courses, which is expected on June 28, he stressed.
