BANGALORE: Teachers of various colleges came out of class rooms on Tuesday in a bid to save the Directorate of Collegiate Education (DCE) building. The non-teaching staff joined hands with them in an indefinite strike against the State Government’s move to shift the DCE from Sheshadri Road to a nondescript building in Shivajinagar. It may be mentioned here that there is a proposal to shift the State Election Commission office to the present DCE office building. The Joint Director’s office on Kalidasa Road adjacent to Sheshadri Road has also been also told to move out of the premises and it was shown a building that belongs to BBMP near Jasma Bhavan Road. Both the offices are functioning in the same premises for the past six decades.When contacted, Principal Secretary to Higher Education Latha Krishna Rao said that the DCE staff has to vacate to a new building for temporary. “We are constructing a new building inside the premises, till then they have to work from different place,” she said.
