KOCHI: The six low-floor buses meant for Vyttila-Vyttila circular service, which have been lying idle at the KSRTC depot here for the past four months, will continue to remain so. The meeting held on Wednesday wherein the Road Transport Authority (RTA) was supposed to give permits to these buses bore no fruit. “Many paper works have to be completed before permits can be given to these buses. The approval from various departments are still pending,” joint RTO Abdul Shukkoor said. The six low-floor non-AC buses were allotted to Kochi under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Rural Mission (JNNURM) prior to the Sabarimala season. Many reasons have been cited for the delay in commencing the service of these buses. The postponement of dates to convene a meeting between the District Collector, RTA and KSRTC officials was the main reason. The stand off between the officials of the KSRTC and the RTA office was yet another reason, the sources said. There were also allegations that the RTA denied permits to these buses as KSRTC had delayed the requests.
