SHIMOGA: The BJP government has taken steps to make Karnataka a slum-free state in the next 2-3 years, for which a Slum Policy has been framed, said Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda.Inaugurating the distribution of title deeds to slum dwellers of the city, the first of its kind in the state, organised by the Karnataka Slum Development Board and Department of Housing at the Kuvempu Rangamandir on Saturday, the CM said that it was an important day as the government is giving title deeds to the most neglected people. The initiative started in Shimoga would continue in all the districts, he added.Out of 2,722 slums in the state, 2,251 were declared as backward and over 45 lakh people have been residing here. Unfortunately, they were made just vote banks during the election time by giving mere assurances. Slums would get priority in the 2012-13 budget in which it’s planned to earmark about `1,000 crore, the chief minister added.
