They don't call Mumbai "The land of dreams" for nothing. And Mumbai being the hub of glitz and glam with Bollywood stars in all their glory inspire thousands and thousands of aspiring actors to try their luck in the tinsel town. Some do, some don’t. But everyone stays on hoping to making it big one day in Bollywoood.
Here we are talking about those fighters who braved all odds to carve a niche for themselves in the industry - actors who do not hail from a film background, actors sans any Godfathers to support them.
IBN MOVIES presents to you a list of actors who not only managed to bag a film on their own merits but also stood out with their performance.
Chandan Roy Sanyal (Kaminey)
The actor had to really wait for a long time to bag a role in Bollywood. What kept him going was his full time participation in theatre. It helped him mature as an actor and made him what he is today. It was Vishal Bharadwaj who spotted the talent in him and cast him in the role of Mikhail in Kaminey. For his outstanding performance in the film, he was also nominated for Best Debutant. The actor is currently shooting for Hema Malini’s next film Tell Me Oh Khuda as a lead opposite Esha Deol.
Dhruv Ganesh (Teen Patti)
Dhruv Ganesh didn’t really have to wait for a long time but he ensured that he trained himself before beginning his acting career. Hailing from Vadodara, he enrolled himself in theatre workshops and when he was ready, he started giving his auditions. Dhruv made a dream debut in Teen Patti where he not only got a prominent role but also shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan.The film was directed by Leena Yadav.
Anshuman Jha (Love Sex aur Dhokha)
Anshuman Jha followed his dreams right from the time he realised that acting was his true calling. He began his acting stint with theatre and stuck to it for many years. The Delhi boy made it a point to attend summer workshops at Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai. As and when, he started doing more plays; he realised that he could take up acting as a career. Not many people know the actor turned down Karan Johar's offer to play second fiddle to Ranbir in Wake up Sid. Anshuman believed that he could be the ‘Sid’ one day. Dibakar Banerjee’s Love Sex aur Dhokha turned out to be just right for him. The actors performances was appreciated by everyone. Anshuman has recently signed a film with Anurag Kashyap.
Neha Chauhan (Love Sex aur Dhokha)
She played the role of Rashmi in the second story of Love Sex aur Dhokha. She hails from Indore and has graduated in English literature. She came to Mumbai with a dream of becoming a filmmaker. To achieve this dream, she also did a course in filmmaking. However, she was destined to be an actress and today she has no complains about it.
Shruti (Love Sex aur Dhokha)
Shruti has been around in Bollywood for quite a long time. The talented actress has done one or two films earlier. However, she got noticed in Love Sex aur Dhokha where she played the character of this cute girl who was a die hard romantic. She is looking forward to more substantial work in Bollywood and also down South.
Siddharth (Teen Patti)
Siddharth started his career as a model and acting was something that happened by chance. He did ramp shows and aspired to be an international model. It was one of his friends who told him about an audition. He gave the audition without knowing who else was there in the film. Well, the rest is history. The actor got to act with Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, in Teen Patti.
So, these are the lucky faces which entered the silver screen and entertained you. These are the actors who have made it big only because of their talent and without a Godfather. Only time will decide, which actor continues this dream run.
