KCOHI: Indian spices, known across the globe for their capacity to tickle noses and tempt taste buds, will now provide a feast to your eyes as well!In a bid to spread the aroma of Indian spices to new territories, the Spices Board India has launched an initiative to catch the illustrious flavours of our spices on camera. The documentary films, which will be used for educational as well as trading purposes, will include the details of each variety of spice, right from its cultivation to processing and marketing. The Spices Board has already invited applications from film production companies. The shooting, which would begin by mid-2012, is expected to continue for a year to film the entire process of cultivation and processing of the spices. “Even though it is a venture to bring the producer and the consumer closer, we also look to generate a love for spice cultivation among the present generation. Different kinds of films will be made for different audiences. The videos made for trading purpose will include the technical side, whereas the ones made for children will showcase the human interest aspects,” said P S Sreekantan Thampi, the deputy director of the Spices Board. As far as the trading aspect is concerned, the Board feels that the initiative will ensure transparency in terms of quality. “The global spice market demands that a product be tradable, provided all the aspects of its making should be known to the consumer. A video documentation of the cultivation and the processing of the product ensures its quality,” said Thampi. The Board also plans to make films which will feature the lives of cultivators and also the uses of various spices. “Through this, we intend to encourage more youngsters to join the sector,” Thampi added.
