KOCHI: Labour Minister Shibu Baby John has said that the state would be made investment-friendly so that new investors would feel confident to invest here. Inaugurating a seminar on ESI and EPF Acts and schemes organised by the Kerala Merchants Union here on Thursday, the Minister said that the labour sector would be enhanced under the UDF Government.“International business companies fear to invest in the state owing to complicated issues related to labour they face here. Under the UDF government the state will be made investment-friendly while protecting the rights of the labour community” he said. He said that unlike in other states, in Kerala no industries would be allowed to function by suppressing the interests of the workers. He added that the UDF Government would make labour sector efficient and more reforms will be made to strengthen the working class. The Minister said that the controversial ‘Nokku Kooli’ will not be permitted any more and wages will be standardised. The standardisation will bring an end to the irregularities in wages, he said.He expressed concern over increasing criminal activities among migrant workers. The issue will be dealt with seriously and the government will initiate registration of every worker coming to the state. An awareness programme for workers will also be initiated to make the labour sector efficient, he added.
