CHENNAI: Traffic on the Thiruvottiyur High Road came to a halt on Tuesday as students protested against the arrest of four of their peers in connection with a clash that broke out between two groups at Tondiarpet yesterday.According to police sources, the incident occurred on board an MTC bus, heading to Parrys from Thiruvottiyur, when students of Presidency College allegedly poked fun at their counterparts of Thyagaraya College, who were singing songs.Once the bus halted at Tondiarper, the two groups alighted and a clash broke out between them. In the ensuing free-for-all, Prabhakar, a BA student of Thyagaraya College, was injured in the head. Sources said that four students of Presidency College - Delhi Babu, Ramesh, Vinod Kumar and Nagaraj - were detained by the Tondiarpet police.On Tuesday, Presidency College students gathered before the police station, demanding the release of their college-mates. They also staged a dharna on the Thiruvottiyur High Road. They called off the stir after police officials intervened.
