Mumbai: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said individuals who have achieved success and also preserved their values were role models for society.
"If success and values go hand-in-hand, it is a form of patriotism. Excel in your field and also stay sincere to yourself. This is like service to the nation," he said.
Bhagwat was speaking at the release of a book, "An Amazing Grace", based on the life and times of noted urologist late Ajit Phadke.
Quoting legendary scientist Albert Einstein, who had said, "Try in your life not to be man of success but man of value", the RSS chief stated, "I feel we need a balance of both virtues. We can be just successful without values or be unsuccessful with values."
People who achieve success without compromising ethics emerge as role models for society, he maintained.
Bhagwat said Phadke, a medical practitioner with RSS roots, was instrumental in grooming several surgeons and urologists.
"He was a team leader and a people's man. In an organisation, if someone else does better than you, there is no ill-feeling. This is unlike in politics," he said.
