He started as a 'nobody' and today he is treated like God. Over the years, Rajinikanth created an image of himself that till date no one can compare with. His fans all over the world are spellbound by his performance and touched by his humility. As the actor turns 61 on 12th December, let us take a look at how this superstar cares and does his part for the society.
Rajinikanth invested the money he earned in the industry for the welfare of his people. He believed in being there for people who have no one. Rajinikanth and his wife Lata who is a singer herself converted his Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam into a charitable trust to help the poor and needy.
It is true that the superstar is very God fearing. On his birthday, many of his fans gear up to donate money, food and help in charitable oraganisations on his name. The actor donated a couple of gopuram models to the Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple located in Tiruvannamalai.
On hearing that the Arunachaleswarar Temple had lighting problems during festive seasons, Rajinikanth provided money to the authority to purchase better quality lights. Earlier, the actor had funded sodium lamps worth 12 lakhs to benefit devotees who perform rituals at night. In addition to all this, Rajinikanth sent a team of experts to look into the other needs and requirements of the temple so he can provide for it.
Rajinikanth has even gone a step further and voiced his opinion for the welfare of his people. In 2002, the actor went on a daylong fast in protest of the government of Karnataka's decision to not release Kaveri River into Tamil Nadu. Rajnikanth promised that he would personally sponsor 1 crore towards a plan to interlink the Indian rivers.
In spite of being a person of such influence and power, Rajinikanth still comes down to the common man's level to interact with them. Once post the shooting of 'Robot', Rajinikanth was resting at the Kelambakkam Gardens and he saw a labourer working under the sun on a hot day. He immediately called his manager and asked him to arrange buttermilk for all the workers there. On hearing this, a lot of people gathered around to drink buttermilk offered by the star himself.
Sometime back, there was an initiative taken by an organisation to collect money and provisions for AIDS affected children. Rajinikanth himself donated Rs.50,000 for the good cause.
The actor has done this and a lot more for his people with as much anonymity as possible. Look out for more on Rajinikanth till his birthday on Sunday.
