Suspected Maoists kill two CPI(M) leaders in West Bengal
Suspected Maoists shot Pratap Nayak from close range, say police.

Kolkata: Two local leaders of the CPI(M) were killed in two districts of West Bengal on Monday night, the police said.

While a CPI(M) member of a gram panchayat in West Midnapore district was gunned down in Binpur, a youth leader of the party was shot and hacked to death at Canning in South 24 Parganas district.

Suspected Maoists shot Pratap Nayak (40) from close range at Chandra village under Binpur police station when he was returning home. He died on the spot, the police said.

Nayak was a member of Andharia gram panchayat, adjacent to Chandra.

In the other incident at Taldih under Canning police station, Shankar Biswas (25) was first shot and then hacked to death by unknown assailants, the sources said.

Biswas was attacked when he was returning home from his timber shop near Taldih station.
