BANGALORE: Sir M Vishweshwaraih Nagar (M V Nagar) is one of the developing area in Kalkere Main Road. More than 2,500 people live here. However, the residents have been facing a series of problems from many years. One of the major problem is of ‘Wrong address and names appearing in the Tax Receipt’. Even though the residents pay their taxes regularly, the addresses and names on the tax receipts are incorrect. On the condition of anonymity, a resident of the area said, “The concerned Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Officials who collect the tax, ask the people to take their tax receipts after few days. But the addresses and the names that appear on the piece of parchment is wrong.”He further added the reason for the mistake is due to the negligence on the part of the officials. “When we ask them to correct the information in their records, they ask us to give a complaint in the local BBMP office along with the tax receipts.”According to Krishna Murthy (name changed) the problem arises as there is no proof of them paying their taxes, even though they do. He also mentioned that only his first name has been entered in the records and though he stays on 8th cross, the address on the receipt says 10th cross. “Something needs to be done about this,” he said. The residents of Kalkere Main Road feel neglected. “If residential areas like Jayanagar and Malleswaram can have proper receipts, why can’t we?” asked Kashi, another resident.Srinivas, the Tax Inspector for Horamavu said, “The people here are paying their taxes on time. The mistake in their addresses and names is not due to us. The fault lies with the higher authorities. We have spoken to Siddaih, the BBMP commissioner regarding the matter. He told us that the matter will be resolved within the next 15 working days.” He also mentioned that the residents will have to pay an additional `45 for the name and address correction. M Revanna, the local corporator for the area said that he had no information about the problems faced by his ward’s residents regarding the incorrect information on the receipts. He said, “A complaint has to be lodged at the ward office. Once that is done I will look into the matter and rectify the issue as soon as possible.”
