Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party on Friday put off announcement of its first list of candidates for April 30 Lok Sabha elections in Telangana, after BJP promised to work out the seat-sharing arrangement by Saturday.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu was supposed to announce the list at a press conference on Friday, but the program was cancelled.
TDP sources said some central leaders of BJP requested him to wait and promised to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement by Saturday. TDP did not make any official statement.
The talks on electoral alliance of TDP and BJP got stuck after Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy said that saffron party would not have any tie-up with TDP and contest the Lok Sabha and the Assembly elections on its own.
Central leaders of BJP later intervened and resumed the talks in New Delhi, but there was no progress as BJP reportedly wanted certain Assembly seats which TDP was not willing to concede.
At one point, TDP leaders suggested to Naidu to abandon the talks, but Naidu said he wanted to be a "colleague" of the BJP in the "larger interests of the country and the two new states (Telangana and Andhra Pradesh)".
In a tactical move, TDP sources said, he planned to announce the first list of candidates tonight without waiting for BJP's response, which forced BJP to promise him a swift decision.
