HYDERABAD: The toppers in the Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET-2011), the results of which were announced Thursday, have their eyes set on entering the portals of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) to hone their managerial and administrative skills. And despite being graduates in B.Tech, they have opted for business administration than a career in Information Technology (IT). Pradeep Reddy Padda of Karimnagar, secured the top rank in the ICET-2011 with 185 marks out of 200 and aims to secure a high percentile in the Common Admission Test in November.The topper who was on cloud nine, distributing sweets to his friends and staff of the coaching centre in Dilsukhnagar, said, “I have done B.Tech to learn how to make power-driven instruments function. But I have set my eyes on MBA. When I have proper idea about the technology, I can go ahead learning managerial skills to become a perfect administrator in my life. It’s my childhood dream to pursue MBA,” he said. The technology graduate who did his BTech from Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, said that due to increase in demand for management professionals by the corporate sector, the demand for management studies has increased a lot. Similarly, second ranker Aditya Kiran Nori, who obtained 185 marks out of 200, is also a technology graduate. He wrote CAT in November last and secured 99.77 per cent marks and gained admission into Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore. “I never expected top rank in the ICET. I kept planning to lay the foundation to get admission in any IIM,” said Aditya. “As a technology graduate, I do not blame the IT sector. But I just did the course to gain technical knowledge that would help my goal of being an administrator,” he added. Aditya did his B.Tech from Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad. Third topper, Pillutla Anirudha Asish secured 183 marks. “I have opted for MBA as these days most of the corporate sectors prefer to hire an MBA graduate,” he said.
