NEW DELHI: Rebel Congress leader K Keshav Rao joined hands with the BJP to slam the UPA Government for not delivering a separate Telangana state during an all-party meeting on Sunday. The Telangana Joint Action Committee had organised the all-party meeting to garner a national-level support for its ongoing protests in Andhra Pradesh. The meeting was attended by representatives from the BJP, rebel Congress, rebel TDP, TRS, RLD, and the CPI.Rao and BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad warned the UPA Government against playing with the people’s sentiments. While Prasad accused the UPA of manipulating the democratic institutions, including the Lok Sabha’s Speaker’s office to delay the formation of Telangana, Rao targeted Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for his reported comment in Parliament that the Congress has not yet taken a stand.“If the Congress did not want to give Telangana, then why did Chidambaram had announced on December 9, 2009, that the step for formation of the Telangana would be initiated. The words of the Home Minister should carry some weight,” Rao alleged. He further said: “Let me correct him. I hold a bigger position than the Home Minister does in the Congress. The Congress Working Committee had passed a resolution in 2001 stating that there were valid reasons for formation of a separate Telangana.” Meanwhile, Prasad promised that his party would deliver a separate Telangana state, if it comes to power at the Centre. The party had already delivered Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand. He also criticised former SC Judge Justice Srikrishna for writing a chapter that allows use of rubber bullets to suppress protests.
