Bechu Rehaman, alleged to have arranged the hirelings that attacked Sabarimala Thantri, surrendered in Kochi.

Kochi: Bechu Rehaman, the key suspect in a sex scandal allegedly involving one of the priests of the Sabarimala Temple, surrendered before the police in Kochi on Tuesday.

Rehaman, who is alleged to have arranged the hirelings that attacked Sabarimala Thantri Kandararu Mohanararu, surrendered before G Venu, the Circle Inspector of the Ernakulam Central Police Station.

Rehaman, a small-time television actor, is likely to be produced before a Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Ernakulam.

The Kerala High Court had on September 19 directed Bechu, who had moved the court for anticipatory bail, to surrender before the investigating officer.

He was a business associate of main accused Shobha John, who along with her aides, were arrested by the police on August 2. She was recently released on bail by the High Court.

On August 3, Shobha John, Vigil and Anil Kumar had been remanded to judicial custody on the basis of a complaint filed by Tantri Kandararu Mohanaru, who claimed that he was forcibly photographed with a woman in a compromising position and threatened at a flat here on July 23.

According to the police, the accused have admitted to their role in the case.

The police led by G Venu, filed a case and arrested them under sections 115, 120 (B) and 395 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Shobha (30), a native of Thiruvananthapuram, and the other two, Anil (36), her driver and Vigil (32), her former driver, were the main conspirators.

According to the police, Shobha was arrested once earlier under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act.

Thantri Kandararu Mohanaru has since been sacked by the Travancore Devaswom Board.
