Mumbai: Sholay, an action-packed classic has stood the test of time and remains one of the biggest movies ever made in the history of Bollywood.

The movie is Bollywood?s biggest bonanza. When it was released in 1975, Sholay redefined Indian cinema?in scale and in technology.

In its 30th year, the film was screened as part of the London Film Festival's ?treasures from the archives? section.

"It's a great honour especially in a year when co-production treaty is being planned between the British film industry and the Indian film industry," Sascha Sippy, CEO, Sippy Films said.

Sascha Sippy is responsible for digitally mastering and re-releasing Sholay in 2004. He has also been working towards a sequel to the film. According to him the time is now right for the Sholay story to move forward.

While Sippy wants a sequel, director Ram Gopal Varma has other plans. The director has announced his intention to make a modern version of the film?something that the family is clearly not happy about.

Sascha Sippy said that Varma?s decision is shocking and the director will be taken to task for this.

After 30 years Sholay still creates a buzz. Whether a sequel will be made or a remake, theres no denying that the original film remains the brightest jewel in Indian cinema?s crown.
