Many of the pen-drives through which the music is played have been stolen.

Kolkata: The West Bengal government's novel way of easing the rough ride on the city's roads by playing soulful Rabindra Sangeet at traffic signals has hit a roadblock with several of the musical devices being stolen.

"Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on her way to the secretariat (Writers' Buildings) from her residence could not hear the music. She asked me to probe the reason. Unfortunately many of the pen-drives through which the music is played have been stolen," said city Mayor Sovan Chatterjee.

He said the devices have been stolen from several crossings including the one closest to Banerjee's Kalighat home.

Police were conducting an investigation.

The project was started as a mark of tribute to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore on his 150th birth anniversary. It was also part of a Rs 10 lakh scheme to beautify the city before the Durga Puja festival in October.
