Three persons were killed in a road accident in Cholapur police station area here on Monday, police said.

Three persons were killed in a road accident in Cholapur police station area here on Monday, police said.

The accident happened when the car, in which they were travelling in, was hit by a speeding truck, coming from behind, Circle Officer (Pindra), Paramhans Mishra said.

Two deceased have been identified as, 50-year-old Awadesh Nath Tripathi, branch manager of Bank of Baroda in Azamgarh district, and Virendra Kumar Pathak (46), a doctor by profession and native of Azamgarh, said Mishra.

Identity of the third deceased was not yet confirmed, he added.  According to police, the three were on way to Azamgarh in the ill-fated car early this morning.

The car was almost crushed in the accident, Mishra said, adding all the injured were rushed to government hospital at Kabir Chaura but they succummed to their injuries on the way.

The truck has been seized and driver is absconding.  A manhunt has been launched to nab the driver, Mishra said.
