New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was on Friday apprised of developments in the Ruchika molestation case by Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath.

Tirath, who had gone to meet Singh to wish him on new year, told Singh that she was waiting for the report of the National Commission for Women in the matter and would afterwards take up the issues of fast-track courts for women

and gender sensitisation with Law Minister Veerappa Moily.

She told him about the various sections under which the NCW has asked former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore to be tried, ministry sources told PTI.

Rathore has been sentenced to six months in jail for molesting budding tennis player Ruchika 19 years ago when she was 14. The teenager had committed suicide three years later.

The former DGP on Friday got an interim bail in two fresh FIRs filed in relation to the case even as the Central government indicated that the CBI may take over the case of abetment to suicide of Ruchika.

An application was filed on Thursday by Ruchika's brother Ashu alleging that he was tortured and his family was harassed so much that the girl was driven to suicide. He wanted filing of a case under 306 of IPC (abetment to suicide).

The NCW has already asked the Haryana Government as well as the Union Law and Home Ministries for reopening cases against Rathore.
