TN civic polls: DMK list out, Karuna confident

CHENNAI: Exuding confidence about the winning prospects of his party in the civic polls, DMK president M Karunanidhi on Thursday released the first list of candidates.Speaking to reporters, Karunanidhi said his party was going it alone only because it was confident of a good show at the hustings. On the poll plank, he said fulfilling the basic needs of the people and development of local bodies would be his party’s election mantra. Asked on VCK’s stance that it continued to be in the DMK-led alliance, he said seat adjustments will be made based on opportunities at the local level though there is no formal tie-up with any party. “This is applicable to Congress too,” he added. When Karunanidhi was told that certain Congress leaders were happy about the snapping of ties for the civic polls, he said that the “joy was on both sides”.Asked if the AIADMK allies would be accommodated in the DMK alliance if they chose to sever ties, he said he did not see such possibility.
