New Delhi: A total eclipse of the moon will occur in the evening of August 28, 2007 from 1421 hrs to 1754 hrs (IST).
However, only the parts of northeast India would manage to get a glimpse only towards the end as it would take place during the day.
The moon would enter in the earth's shadow at 1430 hrs (IST) and would be over by around 1800 hrs (IST) when the sun will be about to set in the northeast.
The eclipse, visible in the Americas, Australia, the Pacific region and parts of east Asia, will be the longest in the last seven years with the moon covered by the earth's shadow for 90 minutes.
"The people in India will miss the event as the eclipse will take place when it is day here," news agency PTI quoted President of an NGO, Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE), Chander Devgun as saying.
The ending of the partial phase of the eclipse will be visible from the extreme northeastern parts of the country including Agartala, Aizawl, Dibrugarh, Shillong, Silchar, Tezpur and Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
"The next total lunar eclipse will take place on February 21, 2008. But, it will not be visible in Asia," Devgun added.
