BANGALORE: The first-ever BJP government south of the Vindhyas is completing four years in office on Wednesday amid infighting, chaos and confusion due to personal ambitions and egos of its leaders in the state.Lesser said the better about the series of corruption cases and illegal mining and denotification scams of the ruling BJP, which continues to tumble out of its cupboard even now.Till date, as many as seven ministers, including former CM B S Yeddyurappa, have resigned on corruption charges, while three ministers were shown the door following their shameful act of watching porn clip inside the Assembly. One minister was forced to quit after he was caught in a rape case. For the first time in the history of Karnataka, four ministers — Yeddyurappa, G Janardhana Reddy, S N Krishnaiah Setty and Katta Subramanya Naidu — were jailed on corruption charges. While three are out on bail, Reddy is still in a Bangalore jail. As if this was not enough, BJP MLA from KGF Y Sampangi was caught red-handed by Lokayukta while accepting `5 lakh bribe in his room in the Legislators’ Home. Despite this, the state BJP leaders continue to fight to get control over the party and the government whose image has hit rock-bottom. Capitalising on the sympathy wave after the great JD(S) betrayal, the BJP rose to power in 2008 with a promise to provide good governance. However, it soon made people realise that it was no different as three serious attempts were made to destabilise the government by its own MLAs.On the development front, the government has given some really good programmes like Sakala, an initiative to provide government services in a time-bound manner, giving farm loans at one percent interest rate, an insurance scheme called Bhagyalakshmi for girl children of BPL families, bicycles to school children. Now that Yeddyurappa is hell bent on dethroning his successor, BJP continues to be on a sticky wicket despite its majority in Assembly.
