While Thirthahalli and Hosanagar taluks are still receiving incessant rains, Sagar, Sorab and other taluks experienced some respite on Wednesday.
With incessant rains in the catchment area of Tunga dam, the Tunga River continued to swell inundating more areas in Thirthahalli taluk.
The inflow into the river has increased from over one lakh cusec to 1,40,690 cusec with 134.6 mm rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours. The water level on the Shimoga-Mangalore Road has also increased.
On Tuesday night and Wednesday, rain wreaked havoc in Thirthahalli, Hosanagar and Sagar taluks as water gushed into houses and damaged crops. Power supply has been disrupted in many places. Most villages have been marooned but no casualties were reported till Wednesday.
In the last 24 hours, the water level rised by three feet in Linganmakki Dam to 1,786.20 feet.
