Two killed as unidentified object explodes

BODI: Two persons, including a woman, were killed when an unidentified object exploded in Thevaram, near Bodi in Theni district, on Monday.Gunasekarapandian (40), of Chinnamanur, has been residing at his wife’s house in Thevaram for 10 years. He was involved in selling scrap iron and discarded plastic products.On Monday, Gunasekarapandian was trying to dismantle a cone shaped object in front of his house when it exploded. Neighbours who rushed out of their homes found Gunasekarapandian dead about 30-feet away. Pavunthai (50), who was at the scene during the blast was also killed and her body was thrown 40-feet away due to the impact.Another woman, Muthumari (35), who was walking down the road some distance away, lost suffered hearing  loss and was injured.ADSP Selvaraj of Theni, DSP Kalifulla of Bodi and Inspector Ulaganathan of Thevaram collected debris from the scene for investigation. Police suspect that the object Gunasekarapandian was attempting to dismantle may have been a rocket launcher.
