The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday night ordered the suspension of Labour Enforcement Officer of Badaun district on the charges of dereliction of duty.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday night ordered the suspension of Labour Enforcement Officer of Badaun district on the charges of dereliction of duty.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has suspended Labour Enforcement Officer, Badaun, R P Yadav, with immediate effect and a departmental enquiry has been initiated against him, a statement issued by the Uttar Pradesh government said.

Though government officials cited no specific reason behind Yadav's suspension, sources said the action was taken after television grabs showed that children were engaged to prepare helipad for landing of the helicopter of BSP supremo Mayawati, who was here to meet the family of the cousins whose bodies were found hanging on a tree on May 28.

An official spokesman said disciplinary action has been initiated against Yadav and enquiry would be conducted by Deputy Labour Commissioner, Kanpur, S D Shukla.

He said action against Yadav was taken for "dereliction of duty and failing to ensure implementation of special child labour prevention law".
