CHENNAI: The stage was set, all right. Except it was twenty feet above the ground. For web Radio Jockey (RJ) Vincent Jebaraj though, it was the right side up. On a warm Saturday evening at the Jessi Moses School, Vincent managed to do a non-stop live radio show, while suspended upside down from a 30 feet high crane and bettered the time set by the previous record holder, twice over. “The existing record is held by Italian Stefano Venneri who managed 15.26 minutes upside down. Let’s see how well I can do,” said Vincent before the attempt. He certainly did that much and more: When the clock finally stopped, Vincent had managed to conduct a show with four songs and one guest, for a whopping 29 minutes and one second. The major risk, as indicated by a doctor accredited by the India Book of Records, is that people can black out, suffer a slipped disk in their back or even have spinal trauma, when suspended upside down for that amount of time. Vincent managed it with more ease than he himself believed possible. Initially, his wife was worried for his safety and asked harness operators to lower him after 10 minutes, the official record mark for the Limca, India and Asia Books of Records. But Vincent refused to give up. The show was beamed live on Christian web Radio channel VOG, while listeners from 82 countries tuned in for this special feat. While the India Book of Records issued an immediate record certification, the confirmation from the Guinness Book of World Records will come within a month.
