Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao moved in to his new swanky and Vaastu compliant office-cum-residence with his family earlier on Thursday morning.
The official complex was formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister in the early hours at 5.22 am on Thursday, which is considered as auspicious time. Chandrashekhar Rao and his wife performed the housewarming ceremony.
The complex, named Pragathi Bhavan by the state government comprises of five buildings, including the CM's residence, office, and a conference room. The complex is located in the Begumpet area and is spread over one lakh square feet.
Security of the Chief Minister is of paramount concern as is evident by the presence of more than 50 security personnel, who will be guarding the office-cum-residence day and night.
The windows of the building have also been fitted with bulletproof glass. The cost of construction of the entire complex has crossed Rs 50 crore.
The conference hall will serve as a meeting place of the Chief Minister and is named Janahita. In Janahita, the Chief Minister is expected to interact with people on an one-to-one basis to formulate the government's policies and programmes as well as to oversee their implementation.
Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, said that it was morally incorrect and insensitive of the Chief Minister to move into a posh new bungalow without fulfilling the poll promise of providing double bedrooms to the poor. He also questioned the huge wastage of public money and running of state administration on grounds of superstitions and beliefs.
In the past, the opposition have raised their voices against K Chandrashekhar Rao's decisions to spend taxpayer’s money in the name of Vastu, most notably, the decision to build a new secretariat by abandoning the existing building due to vaastu issues. The cost of the new construction is expected to go beyond Rs 150 crore.
In addition to this, KCR's obsession with astrology has led to his official vehicles changing colour from black to white. KCR's offerings to the temples to fulfill personal vows has also raised many questions.
