Varavara Rao identifies Kishenji's body
This comes a day after Kishenji's family alleged that he was killed in a fake encounter.

New Delhi: The body of top Maoist leader Koteswar Rao alias Kishenji was on Saturday identified by Naxal sympathiser Varavara Rao at the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital morgue.

Deepa, the daughter of Kishenji's elder brother Anjayelu, also identified the body of the slain Maoist leader.

According to the police, post-mortem would be done in the presence of forensic experts on Saturday. The district administration, the police said, would take a decision on handing over the body to their relatives later.

Asked whether the body would be flown to Kishenji's native place at Peddapalli town in Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh, police said, "It would be done accordingly".

This comes a day after the family of Kishenji alleged that he was killed by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in a fake encounter.

However, CRPF Director General K Vijay Kumar claimed that the encounter in the Junglemahal area of West Bengal was a clean one.

Kishenji's body was earlier kept at a morgue at Jhargram Hospital amidst strict security.

The top Maoist leader was killed on Thursday evening in an encounter with security forces at Burishol village in Junglemahal area of West Bengal.

Joint forces are, meanwhile, continuing combing operations in Burisole forest areas, the scene of Thursday's fierce gunbattle with Kishenji and his men that left the top Maoist leader dead, in search of another Maoist accomplice Suchitra Mahato and two others.

Sources said that the combined forces were searching every nook and corner of the area in search of Suchitra and two others who are believed to have escaped injured after Thursday's encounter and hiding somewhere nearby.

Meanwhile, the Maoists sponsored two-day statewide bandh from Saturday had no impact in the state except for closure of some shops in Jhargram area in protest against the death of Kishenji in "fake encounter".
