BANGALORE: Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University  Dr N Prabhu Dev and Registrar Dr B C Mylarappa are at loggerheads following the latter’s visit to the Kolar Postgraduate Centre on Monday. Dr Prabhu Dev said he was not informed about the visit to Kolar by Dr Mylarappa and Syndicate members, revealing a surprising communication gap in the administration. The VC, in a written response, said: “I was not aware of the Syndicate members or the Registrar visiting the PG Centre at Kolar. The Registrar had neither taken my consent nor had he informed me about the visit.”“The Karnataka State Universities (KSU) Act, 2000, demands approval of the Vice-Chancellor for any official event in the University. I would have certainly approved the visit if I were informed,” he said. When Express contacted Dr Mylarappa, he said he was disappointed with the VC’s letter. “I am the Registrar of BU. I have the right to inspect matters of the university. The Kolar issue was a longstanding one, so I thought it right to visit the place. I have met teachers and non-teaching staff before. Do I need an approval from the Vice-Chancellor for discharging my duty?” he questioned.Dr Mylarappa said he had not taken any major decision to seek the VC’s approval. “I visited the place with Syndicate members. I did not take any major decision. The VC should not have written such a letter,” he observed.
