VELLORE: The Vellore Government Medical College Hospital here is ready with a ten-bedded ward to treat patients infected with H1N1. Though no case has been registered so far, the hospital has made arrangements to meet any eventuality. The six-bedded special ward, which is used to treat patients affected by epidemics, has been upgraded to accommodate six females and four males. An isolated ward is also ready.As many as 192 doses of vaccines were administrated to medicos and para-medios who would be handling patients infected with H1N1. The Deputy Director of Health Services Dr Somasundaram said that the vaccination drive would continue in the government hospitals and the Primary Health Centres from Wednesday onwards. “The surveillance staff attached to the 40 PHCs, numbering around 400 Health Inspectors and Village Health Nurses, would also be covered under the vaccination drive. The district, which comprised Vellore and Tirupattur Health Unit Districts, has received 1,200 doses of the vaccine,” he said. “In Tirupattur HUD, 200 doses of vaccines were administered on the Village Health Nurses and the Health Inspectors attached to the 38 PHCs in the first phase,” Dr Suresh, Deputy Director of Health Services said.
