Vigilance probe ordered into tar bill fraud

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance Special Court has ordered a probe into the tar bill fraud with Rs 6.15 crore against the superintending engineer and 93 contractors.  The order was pronounced by P K Haneefa, Vigilance special court judge, on the petition filed by Advocate Neyyatinkara P Nagaraj.According to the petition, the contractors and engineers had framed  fake documents to claim money for works which had actually not been done and gained Rs 6.15 crore through 348 fake invoices.The probe will be conducted against Roads and Bridges Division superintending engineer, National Highway Division superintending engineer, executive engineers, assistant executive engineers, assistant engineers, overseers, draftsmen, technical assistants and fake invoice makers and distributors and 93 contractors.The court directed Vigilance Director Desmond Netto to submit the primary investigation report within three months.
