New Delhi: Author of 'Slumdog Millionaire' and career diplomat Vikas Swarup is likely to replace Syed Akbaruddin as Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson. He is expected to take charge on April 18, 2015.

Swarup joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1986, motivated by an interest in international relations and a desire to explore different cultures.

He is the recipient of the US-India Business Council's Lifetime Achievement Award for "Contributing to the Cultural Ties that Bind."
