BANGALORE: “It is the government’s responsibility to introduce new innovations in public transport. So we must take the first step,” said MK Shankaralinge Gowda, Transport Secretary. He was speaking at Sweden India Nobel Memorial Week panel discussion on ‘Public Transport Challenges’ organised as part of a seminar by Volvo India under the patronage of the Embassy of Sweden. The seminar included a presentation by Sameer Shisodia, a citizen representative, who made a case for infrastructure investment in Public Transportation. “Purchase of buses should not be taken as expense by the government,” he said. KSRTC MD Gaurav Gupta stressed on public involvement in the planning and implementation process. He said people would choose public transportation only if they found it comfortable. After the seminar, the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award was presented to the best project submitted by individuals, organisations and institutes working out creating innovative solutions to support sustainable transport. Mapunity, the winner was given a prize of Rs. 7,00,000.
