Was reluctant to do 'Casanova': Sanjjanaa

Thiruvananthapuram: The pretty Sanjjanaa, who entered Mollywood with the mega budget Mohanlal starrer 'Casanova', is elated by all the attention she has been garnering in Kerala over the last few months.

Sanjjanaa who forayed into acting with her super-sensuous act in 'Ganda Hendathi', the Kannada version of the Hindi flick 'Murder' plays a Dubai-based plucky salsa dancer, 'Nidhi', in 'Casanova'. The fact that the Bangalore-based actress was sharing screen time with three other heroines, Shriya Saran, Lakshmi Rai and Roma, did made her slightly reluctant to take on the project in the beginning. "I had inhibitions to start with, but when I heard more about the film, and realised that it would be a once-in-a-lifetime movie, I agreed," she tells us.

She also specially learnt salsa for the film. "Matching those adept steps with Mohanlal was a delightful experience," she says.

The mega budget movie that has been the talk of the town since its announcement two years ago, did have its share of shooting hiccups.

Sanjjanaa says producer, C J Roy of Confident Group and director Rosshan Andrews faced some hard knocks all along and that she respects them for the diligence and steady determination they showed.

The actress is particularly all praise for her director, who was extremely keen and gung ho to get things right. He would keep pushing her to improve upon every shot. Mohanlal, she says, is 'sharp' and always 'maintains continuity beautifully' while acting.

Any memorable incident? She narrates one where she had to learn left-hand driving within an hour in Dubai.

Sanjjanaa who has acted in 11 movies so far got a break with the 2008 Telugu movie 'Bujjigadu'. In the pipeline are four Kannada movies and the Malayalam film, 'The King and the Commissioner.' The Shaji Kailas-Ranji Panikker helmed political thriller has her playing a cop.

The actress was recently present at the Kaloor International stadium for the Celebrity Cricket League match and says she thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

"What a frenzy it was at the ground! I was actually taken aback by the way people reached out to me, addressing me as the 'Casanova' girl and asking me about the movie. I was absolutely bowled over by the way they treated me," says the excited 22-year-old. On that note, we ask her about her alleged 'friendship' with Sreesanth, the Indian cricketer from Kochi. Sanjjanaa maintains a firm 'no comments' but after a pause, she resumes with political correctness, "Sreesanth is a good human being, I have high respect for him and wish him all the best."

Sanjjanaa feels that glitz and glamour are inseparable elements of cinema, but she does want to play a typical Keralite character in one of her next projects.
