New Delhi: On his recent trip to the capital, megastar Amitabh Bachchan spoke to IBNLive about the theme of 'Bhoothnath Returns', his fears and why actors should be affected by Box office collections. Excerpts from an interview...
On incorporating the concept of elections in 'Bhoothnath Returns': The story of 'Bhoothnath Returns' was finalized over a year back. And the day it was decided that we'd work on the film, we decided that the shoot would begin soon. We knew that the elections would have after a period of 5 years, but we weren't sure of the precise dates. So the idea of elections wasn't added later.
On kids being the most uninhibited, natural actors: Prank khelne ka mauka nahi diya humne Parth Bhalerao (child actor) ko. But I have to admit that he is a great actor. You have to watch the film to agree with me. Jab aap film dekhengey toh pata chlega ki itna chota shaks jo hai itnbi badiya acting karta hai. There was never a moment when we felt he went wrong in his approach to his role. Bahut se log poochte hain ki yeh baccha hai toh yeh kyun samjhega ki kya bolna hai aur kyun bolna hai. Aisa nahi hai. According to me, kids are the most uninhibited and natural actors. And when I work with child artistes, I make sure they are comfortable and the environment is relaxed and conducive enough for their growth.
On his presence eclipsing other actors' performances: Yeh bahut galat dharna hai. The very premise is wrong that I work in that manner. I'm part of the crew and I'm just another professional actor. During the time of the selection of the story and the script, we go through the dialogues too. And yes, when the director comes up with interesting thoughts, we do discuss them. Since the director is the captain of the film, we have to follow him. Agar iss chotey bacchey ko mujhe chaanta marna hoga toh who zaroor marega aur agar mujhe issey daantna hoga, toh mai bhi zaror daatunga. Fir chaahye koi bhi ho, kyunki hum sab ko ek kiradaar nibhana hota hai.
On being narrated ghost stories: During my childhood, even I was narrated the ghost stories. Raat ko sulaney ko toh humei bhi sunaya karte they yeh kahaniyaan. So it was natural for us as kids to be a bit scared of entering a dark room, or roam around in the dark alleys.
On granddaughter Aaradhya watching 'Bhoothnath Returns': If Aaradhya gets to see a glimpse of the film 'Bhoothnath Returns' on TV, she usually stops all that she does for some time. And if she gets to see a print ad or my photo, so yes she does ask me about it. Don't know if she knows about my profession.
On sharing the screen with Honey Singh: My grandchildren told me about Honey Singh and they made me listen to his songs too. When I heard the song, I loved it. Honey Singh bahut hi gunni kalakar hain. He not only wrtite his own sings, but also the music and acts in his songs too.
On what scares him the most: There are a lot of things I'm scared of - of not being able to live up to the expectations of the viewers. I don't know how the film 'Bhoothnath Returns' will fare at the box office. How we should show ourselves in public and how we should behave in public. As far as box office collections go, we all should be affected by it.
