HYDERABAD: Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who tried to impress upon the court that his arrest was illegal and he be set free, finally walked into the Chanchalguda prison on Monday evening after the court felt he could influence witnesses and tamper with evidence. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s appeal to the CBI court judge, in person, also went in vain and he was remanded in judicial custody till June 11, but he would be given special prisoner status. He was shifted to the Chanchalguda prison amid tight bandobust.Near the prison, high drama ensued as Jagan Mohan Reddy’s wife Bharati, who was present in the court hall throughout the day with a copy of the Bible in her hand, tried to go up to the prison. However, she was stopped at Chanchalguda crossroads, following which there was a heated argument between her and the police. On Monday evening, Jagan Mohan Reddy walked out of the court hall with his characteristic smile and shook hands with supporters who managed to enter the court premises in spite of tight bandobust, but the charm in his smile was missing.Earlier in the day, CBI officials got medical tests conducted on Jagan Mohan Reddy before shifting him to the CBI court at the criminal courts complex, Nampally.A tight security was arranged on the roads leading to the court and paramilitary forces and Rapid Action Force were deployed.Jagan Mohan Reddy’s wife Bharati, financial advisor V Vijay Sai Reddy, and the MP’s counsels from Delhi, Mukul Rohitgi, Sushil Kumar and Aman, walked into the court a few minutes before Jagan Mohan Reddy was brought there and made to sit in the public prosecutor’s room just a few minutes before 10.30 am. The judge asked Jagan Mohan Reddy whether he was beaten or assaulted by the CBI during custody to which the MP replied in the negative.A huge gathering of advocates, some said to be members of YSRC legal cell, were present in the packed court hall. As the court started its regular proceedings, some of the lawyers informed the court that their clients could not enter the premises due to the police bandobust. With the packing of court hall with people led to suffocation, principal special judge A Pullaiah asked the advocates whose cases were not to be heard at that juncture to leave the hall and took up the case related to the summons issued by it to the 13 accused in the first chargesheet of Jagan Mohan Reddy illegal assets case. As the advocates did not budge, the judge expressed his helplessness to conduct business and went into his chambers. He also sent away the other accused out of the court and Jagan Mohan Reddy to left the hall. This sparked protests by advocates that they have every right to stay in the open court hall even as court staff and police tried to force the advocates out of the hall. With the advocates unrelenting, the judge conducted business after 20 minutes. As the arguments begun, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s counsel informed the court that the MP want to sit in the hall and hear the arguments. With the judge agreeing to it, Jagan Mohan Reddy entered the room and he was offered a chair to sit in the hall besides his counsel.Jagan Mohan Reddy’s counsel argued that the arrest itself is illegal, while the other side sought the MP’s 14-day custody for further investigation.During the more than two hours of arguments, several advocates and court staff made their way inside the already packed hall to have a glimpse of Jagan Mohan Reddy who was listening to the arguments and sometimes giving notes to his counsel. After hearing both sides, the judge reserved the orders for 3 pm and during the break, Jagan Mohan Reddy reportedly had a glass of butter milk and took a nap in the public prosecutor’s chambers. The orders were delivered around 5 pm and after completing the formalities Jagan Mohan Reddy was shifted to the Chanchalguda prison even as his fans, who include some court staff, tried to shake hands with him.
