Wild jumbos injure woman, damage auto

MADIKERI:  Herd of six elephants with a calf elephant injured a woman seriously and smashed an auto rickshaw near Sunticdoppa on Wednesday.
The elephants were spotted on Madapura Road after they made their exit from Kenchatti Estate. Though the jumbos tried to enter the Tata Coffee Estates, they could not. They moved towards main road, where they smashed the auto rickshaw belonging to Mani of Sunticoppa. Of the five passengers, one passenger Lakshmi, an estate labourer at Bettageri, was thrown out of the auto. Later, she was admitted to the district hospital.When the news spread, officers of the Forest and Police Departments rushed to the spot and fired in the air to chase the elephants.
