Mumbai: Days after former Home Secretary RK Singh claimed that some elements in the Mumbai police foiled the secret intelligence operation to nab underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that he will launch a probe into the allegations. Fadnavis admitted that the allegations are serious.
Singh had recently said that some elements in the Mumbai police foiled the secret intelligence operation adding that members of Chhota Rajan gang who were being trained for the operation were arrested by the Mumbai police.
The BJP MP and former home secretary had advocated the covert strike to bring back the fugitive gangster but said it would require a direction from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Arguing that Pakistan will “shamelessly" deny that Dawood is not there, Singh said that if he has to brought back, then “other methods" will have to be adopted.
He had said that “other groups" can be funded and trained to undertake an operation. However he added that “political determination and decision" is stopping Indian agencies to undertake such an operation.
“The Prime Minister and the Home Minister will have to tell their agencies that this has to be done. Then this will be done," he said.
Pitching for a strong retaliatory action against terror attacks in the country originating from Pakistan, Singh said India has to become like Israel otherwise “people will keep hitting us and we will keep getting hurt".
Asked if he meant the way US undertook an operation in Pakistan to kill Osama, he said, “not exactly but something similar".
