A 50-year-old woman was found murdered at her house in Nungambakkam on Sunday. The police suspect that her 35-year-old son could be behind the murder and could have escaped with five sovereign gold jewellery belonging to her. A manhunt has been launched for the son.
Police said Bakyalakshmi (50) of Kamarajapuram Nagar in Nungambakkam, was found dead at her house with injuries to her head by her daughter Bharathi on Sunday evening. Police said the neighbours noticed the 50-year-old’s son Gopinath (35) leaving the house before Bakyalakshmi’s body was found.
Police said Gopinath worked as a cook in Virudhunagar and returned home jobless a month back. He often fought with his mother demanding money. The injury on the woman’s head looked like she was hit by an iron rod.
Senior Executive Held for Swindling Cash
Sleuths of Central Crime Branch arrested a senior executive of Sundaram Fasteners for swindling funds to the tune of `2.62 crores. Police said the fraud was committed over a period of 11 years, since 2000, and was exposed during an internal audit conducted a month back.
Police said S Venkatesan (53) of Natesan Nagar, Virugambakkam, who was incharge of printing and stationary in the company since 2000, had allegedly forged documents and false entries to swindle money.
Venkatesan was the authority to issue cheques and had forged payment vouchers and swindled `1.59 crore, apart from making false entries claiming to have given travel advance to senior executives in marketing department, swindling `42.26 lakh.
After a complaint from general manager S Rajagopalan on September 25, a case was registered under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 477 (A) (fraudulent cancellation, destruction, of will, authority to adopt, or valuable security) and Venkatesan was arrested.
