BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will be organising a dissemination workshop on operating Intelligent Transport System (ITS) as part of the Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP), funded by the World Bank and jointly organised with the Ministry of Urban Development on September 21, at Regalis, Mysore .The project cost is Rs. 20 crore and involves around 500 buses operating in Mysore area. It plans to provide a commuter-friendly experience by incorporating technologies like real-time vehicle location, GPS enabled tracking, SMS service for passengers and two-way communication between buses and control centres.The workshop will conduct training programmes for drivers, conductors, controllers and other staff related to everyday operations. KSRTC’s ITS project is the first-of-its-kind in the country and this workshop is part of its plans to implement the use new technologies by its staff. The workshop is scheduled to be inaugurated by Transport and Home Minister R Ashok and S A Ramdas, Minister for Medical Education.
