HYDERABAD: A 26-year man who fraudulently made purchases with ATM cards of other customers was arrested by the cyber crime police of Cyberabad Commissionerate on Friday. According to the police, the accused, U Nageshwar Reddy, is a resident of Ravulakolanu village in Simhadripuram mandal in Kadapa district.He stole the identity card of Pavan Kumar of Jeedimelta from a xerox centre at Lakdikapul.On the strength of the fake ID, he obtained more than 10 SIM cards and a data card of MTS for operating internet. “Nageshwar Reddy selects unmanned or unguarded ATMs of State Bank of India. When a customer enters the ATM to withdraw money or to do some other transaction, he stands behind the customer and notes down the card and PIN. Using the noted numbers, he makes online purchases and gives a false address for delivery. Before the items are delivered at the address furnished by him, he visits the courier company’s office and collects the consignment personally,’’ Cyberabad police commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said.During investigation police found that the accused used an internet cafe at SR Nagar and the MTS data card with his laptop to make online purchases.Police swung into action after a series of complaints came from Jeedimelta, Balanagar and Chintal areas where huge amounts were siphoned off from accounts of customers to buy electronic goods, mobile phones and even bus tickets from Bangalore to Hyderabad.
