The life of a global superstar is filled with appreciation and memorable moments, but it also comes with some added responsibilities and challenges we might not be aware of. RM, the leader of the popular K-pop boyband BTS, has been experiencing major changes in his life since he enlisted for his mandatory military service in the South Korean military. It has almost been six months since he began serving in the Army. Recently, he took to Weverse and shared some insights about this phase of his life.
Reflecting on his time so far, RM shared that he has been busy with his duties, to the point where he couldn’t even mark the 11th anniversary of BTS on social media. “It was [BTS’] 11th anniversary not long ago, but I couldn’t leave even a short post because I was busy. Comeback To Me (his song) came out a month ago, and RPWP came out three weeks ago. Last April, I postponed my plan to enlist with [J-Hope] and ended up joining hands with my younger siblings. I think I spent the last 23 years just drinking and working. I’m jealous of my friend’s sergeant’s badge but I have no regrets. (lol),” he said, reports Billboard.
In his post, RM also talked about not being able to share his thoughts in person. He explained that his recent album is an honest portrayal of his thoughts and struggles. He urged his fans to listen to it on repeat to understand it better.
“This is my first work where I haven’t been able to share my thoughts in person. There’s a lot I want to say, but it’s all written in the album… This is just an album in which I struggled to be honest with myself. I hope you read it over and over again for a long time,” he reportedly added.
In a very emotional and heartfelt part of his post, he also mentioned his fellow BTS member Jin. Jin has just completed his military service last week. All the BTS members had reunited to welcome Jin back. RM had even played a saxophone to their hit song Dynamite.
Further into his Weaverse post, RM said that he could feel how lonely and difficult it must have been for Jin to be the first to serve. “I brought a saxophone to play for fun, but in reality, I had mixed feelings. I wonder if it would have been very lonely and difficult to go first.. what would it have been like? One year and six months is fair to everyone here,” he added, as reported by Billboard.
The BTS leader also expressed his longing for his bandmates. “Jin always used to talk about it. I miss the members so much. I bet you do too. Now that I am scattered and living somewhere in Gangwon-do, I understand deeply. When we actually talked face to face, I realised again the things that never change, the place I had to return to, and what kind of person I was… It was a meaningful and precious time for all of us.”
All BTS members are expected to reunite in June 2025.
