Along with the lead stars, the series also stars Song Geon Hee and Lee Seung Hyub in key roles. Lovely Runner tells the story of Im Sol, played by Kim Hye Yoon, who is shown as a diehard fan of Byeon Woo Seok’s character Ryu Sun Jae. Her life takes a tragic turn after a serious accident crushes her dream of becoming a director. The situation worsens when she learns that her idol, Sun Jae committed suicide. While she is devastated by the news, Im Sol suddenly finds herself mysteriously transported back to 2008, 15 years earlier. In this new timeline, she ends up in a classroom from the past and it becomes her mission to change both her and Sun-jae’s destiny.
While Kim Ji Won and Kim Soo Hyun starrer Queen of Tears was recorded on Netflix, Lovely Runner, on the other hand, achieved impressive viewership ratings on tVN. According to Nielsen Korea, the K-drama began with a 3 per cent rating for its first episode and rose to 4.8 per cent by the 14th episode. The series ended on a high note, as the final episode exceeded expectations and crossed a 5.8 per cent viewership rating.
